After finishing up her conversation with Leslie and Rosemary, Mae looked up the phone number for the restaurant at Bicentennial Park. She was familiar with the place since she’d driven horses in the park before and it was not a bad place for that. There were wide walkways open to foot and bicycle traffic only that ran right alongside the river and had plenty of room for a horse and carriage.

But this time, the two women wanted to have a horse take them right up to the restaurant so they could get out at the front door. The carriage would be there for a while with the inevitable pictures and Mae was sure the young women would want to take rides along the river for still more pictures. A few of their friends might want to do the same.

So, as she always did, she got on the phone to make sure the restaurant's management would have no objections to her bringing in a horse and carriage for a wedding shower luncheon.

"Yes, that's right," she said, after getting a manager on the line. "Next Friday morning, from about eleven to noon. A small carriage pulled by one horse. It's to bring in the two young women who are having their wedding showers at the restaurant. You have their reservation? Yes, that's them.

"I'll be parking in the lot just east of you, and we'll … what's that?" Mae paused, listening. "Oh, I see. Well, we don't normally do that. Are you sure it's a requirement?" She paused again. "I understand. I'll take care of it. Thank you very much. See you Friday morning."

She dropped the phone into her pocket, grabbed her travel mug of coffee, picked up her keys, and left to drive out to Goodnight Farm … though now she had a stop to make first.

Oh, but Ross is going to love this.
